NCIRCULAR is a small, independently run publication covering news across Africa. It has no newsroom and no staff writers — it is one person's project, built and run on a custom static site generator rather than a CMS.
The four things on this site
The Wire is a live aggregator. It pulls headlines from around forty RSS feeds — international wires, national outlets and Google News editions covering North, West, East, Southern and Central Africa — and republishes their titles, sources and links twice a day. NCIRCULAR does not write, edit or verify Wire headlines; they are exactly what the source published, attributed and linked back to the original article. Treat the Wire as a directory of what other newsrooms are reporting, not as NCIRCULAR reporting.
The Daily Circular and The Weekly Circular are AI-assisted synthesis pieces. Each edition is compiled from the same wire sources above: an automated process pulls together the day's or week's coverage of a handful of stories, reads across the outlets covering them, and drafts a summary of what happened and how different sources described it, with inline links to every source used. A person (the site's operator) reviews, edits and publishes each edition before it goes live, but the first-draft synthesis is machine-written. This is stated plainly here rather than left for a reader to guess: nothing on this site is presented as original on-the-ground reporting.
The Archive is the accumulated back catalogue of Circulars and older posts going back several years, browsable by year, month, tag and category.
Sourcing and corrections
Every claim in a Daily or Weekly Circular links to the outlet it came from — follow the links for the original reporting. If you spot an error, a broken link, or a mischaracterisation of a source, use the contact page and it will be fixed or noted.
Licensing
Original NCIRCULAR text (the Circulars and any other editorial posts) is published under a CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. The Wire is a links-and-headlines index of other publishers' work, not NCIRCULAR content, and is not covered by that licence — republish from the original source, not from the Wire listing.
Who runs this
NCIRCULAR is built and maintained by one person, using ssg.py, an open-source static site generator also used to build a couple of other small sites. There is no editorial board, no funding beyond AdSense, and no outside investors.
